What is Twitter? Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users’ updates (otherwise known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.
Updates are displayed on the user’s profile page and delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them. The sender can restrict delivery to those in his or her circle of friends (delivery to everyone being the default).
Users can receive updates via the Twitter website, instant messaging, SMS, RSS, email or through an application such as Twitterrific or Facebook. For SMS, four gateway numbers are currently available: short codes for the United States, Canada, and India, as well as a United Kingdom number for international use. Several third parties offer posting and receiving updates via email.
How can’t we help? Like we’ve already discovered, Twittering is like “mini-blogging”. You craft up a quick 140 word braindump on what is on your mind now. No need to get deep in conversation, off on tangents, or need for image correlations; just braindump what you’re thinking now.
Sounds ineffective, right? You’d be surprised we think. Twitter keeps the actual number fairly secretive but the fact that 3.5 million people visit the site monthly must say something about it.
Need help getting started? Are you a seasoned Twitter veteran looking for a little downtime? Tired of twitting away to nobody? Want someone to listen to what you have to say? Do you want more followers?
If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, we’ll likely be able to help you out. Give us a shout-out and we’ll see if we can get your Twitter to take flight!
